Heyoh! Just wanted to post up here asking for a general opinion from peopleses.
Currently I'm trying in vain (completely, its somewhat worrying) to gear up my recently dinged Retnoob. Now I love her to bits, but getting groups for things is proving monstrous. I wanted to ask the heads over here at the Haven if ever it would be at all possible to perhaps tag along to the odd Kara badge farm or something? Just to at least keep me in mind if you've a spot free ever would be deeply appreciated.
Her Name is Symphony, just so folks know. No hassle one way or t'other, just wanted to ask as if I get much more bored I'm going to have to....*shudder* grind...fishing....

Infidel! Are you saying that fishing is not tawtally and completely awesome?!

On a related not, I certainly wouldn't mind you coming with us, but:

a) retnoobs are a weird spec, I very much think paladins should stick to tanking (well, this is not an objection, it's just a subtle feeling of mine)
b) if you joined the nuthouse, everything would be much simpler. Seriously, you have plentiful of characters in AO, but if you don't play them and if AO can't satisfy your PvE needs, you'd be better of joining us.

Just a thought.

Um... how about the fact that we make it nearly impossible to pull of a tankadin? Or the 3% crit bonus to the raid, 2% bonus damage to our group, and extra blessing slot? And obscene damage, if you know what to do (my Ari is usually 6th on the damage tables at worst).

Gone are the days of worthless Ret, and come Wrath, you'll be begging for them to be in raids, I bet :P

I'm not saying they are useless or subpar or anything. I'm just saying they are weird and I simply think paladins should be prot :)

/agree

Whilst retnubs maybe fun, protadins are the real deal. Retri is your PvP/levelling build until Wrath :p

Well I don't mind frankly, I enjoy trying to make the most of what most folks see as outsider specs. People used to laugh their arses off at Shadowpriests and Enhance Shamans too *grin*
I'm gearing as a tank and healer also, its just that Ret will be where all the badges and honorgrinding will go.
Theres a -lot- of potential in Retri dps, and if you don't reckon so, thats fair enough but I've seen enough videos to know what kinda damage they can squeeze out.

*sigh* Seems like you don't understand what I mean. Nevermind then.

My main point here is: join the guild and rock away, mate. We'll like you here.

Always worth taking at least one ret paladin. And if all go prot, then there'll be many more squabbling over limited raid spots. Mind you, far too many DO go ret, and don't do it right at all. Huntard syndrome all over again >_<

I see that Angelic has not seen the usefulness of the Holy specced paladin that, when accompanied with a protadin, makes them pretty much unable to fall down and can spam heals for hours with minor mana loss (in my case, I throw in the occasional Holy Light as I have the Libram that gives me 22mp5 for 30secs when I cast that). That and we make very good face-tankers in a pinch.

Face tanking ftw! I'll let you off with Holy, as Soundwave is god of all healers, and is indeed a holydin :p

Teh Umb has hit it smack on the head again though, one ret pally in a 25man is damn useful, for the reasons mentioned in the first post, the DPS is however lolable compared to real raid DPS like combat rogues and destro locks. Still, what they bring to the raid ups the DPS of others, so becomes acceptable.
I dub retradins the new (mini) enhancement shaman ;)

Funny old thing, damage meters.

I've seen rogues at the top, I've seen fury warriors. I've seen ret pallies up there, I've seen hunters and elemental shammies on top, warlocks, shadowpriests, boomkins, ferals and mages... I feel a song coming on...

No, don't run away, I'm over it now...

In some cases, they were there because they out-geared everyone else. In some cases, they were there because they out-skilled everyone else. In most cases, they were there because the group construction was just right for them.

Put a fury warrior in a group with a feral, a hemo rogue, a BM hunter and an enhancement shaman, and watch the numbers fly. Stick the mage in there with a shadowpriest, warlock and boomkin, and he'll be a happy (if somewhat threat-capped) fireball spammer.

At the end of the day, the raid is a success if the boss goes down and the phat lewt gets handed out. Some classes sacrifice personal DPS to increase the whole raid's DPS - Arms warriors, Hemo rogues, Survival hunters, Enhancement Shammies, Ret Pallies, Ferals, Boomkins, Shadowpriests... all have raid utility, often at the cost of the optimal damage spec.

This is why we don't encourage the posting of meters, they're a very one-eyed way of looking at a raid. Also, as I proved last night in Kara, it can be kind of embarrassing when the rogue only just gets ahead of the main tank *blush*

No one loves the ele shaman :(

Boomkin - 5% crit
Ele shaman - 3% crit and 3% hit, 101 bonus spelldamage, 50mp5

*sigh* damn boomkins stealing my places :p

Whilst I was with you guys I was always near the top on the meters, usually competing with that Bald fella... Then after a move we shan't discuss I found myself competing with the tanks, so the DPS is all relative...

Ahey, :)

Right, the original post seems to be lost in the shuffle, now. :)

Baeleth, I'm going to restate Angelic's point and suggest that you get your retnoob in the guild and sign up for the Tuesday Kara runs. It's that simple. :)

If you don't want Symphony in the guild, you can still sign up, but you'll be betting on luck that you'll have an open spot. If you do have the spot, though, you'll be more than welcome to come along.

Cheers,
J.

All elemental shamans are good for is over-aggroing, dying, and then ankhing up and ressing the raid after the wipe.

Wouldn't mind if there is an open spot. More retri goodness FuhTuhWuh!
As for joining the guild. Would love to have you in the madhouse*smiles*

On damage meters:
Here is what I think of them: Post AFTER the raid is done. Not during.
Only worthwhile thing about them during a raid would be for research. Tend to have someone whisper me the meters when something seems a bit off at times just to check and see if it's just me or if something really is wrong so the issue can be corrected.
But still. They shouldn't be smacked up in some pub channel mid-raid:p
