In case anyone was wondering what to play, I've added a racial breakdown to the first post. Currently, anything but Skaven and Dwarfs are welcome, especially Dark Elves, Goblins and Lizardmen.

Got a feeling Pwnstar and Velaphor will be Lizardmen, I'm used to playing Skaven on the tabletop so it'll be interesting to play something else for a change...

Hmm... Greenpiece is taken by someone somewhere in the world. Will that be an issue for this league, or will I need a more original name?

They spell it Greenpeace, if you're talking about the organisation. And I don't think any of us care really anyway ;) It's all for fun, and I think it's a good name, except that BloodBowl is never peaceful..

I'm aware of the environmental organisation and the spelling of their name. My name was a futile attempt at a play on words. Unfortunately, someone else was as unoriginal and unimaginative as me and there is already the team name "Greenpiece" in the global league. I wanted to know if that would prevent me from running a team called "Greenpiece" in our league.

Oh, oops. Sorry. And sorry if I sounded a bit patronising too. :/ I don't see why it would, but I'd check with somebody else first, as I don't know too much about it. :)

Aaaaaand after much deliberation and experimentation we (Panda, Ronin and myself) may now present to you ladies and gentlemen the rule set which we will be operating under for this upcoming blood bowl league.

Firstly: The Teams.

Entry lvl teams
Minimum team points value= 850
Maximum team points value= 1000

All teams applying for entry to the league have to be newly created with no previous matches played.

We know many of you are practicing hard and as a side effect lvling up your characters and upping your teams pts cap. To stop nasty game imbalance where a vet team stomps newer ones we need all teams to be on a similar footing at the start of the league so have to insist that any teams put forward be pitch virgins.

Secondly: The Fixtures

Games will take place on a once a week basis

Once all teams are entered and everything is a go the league will begin by allocating your week one rival. The allocation is random but you will never fight the same opponent twice. You then have one week to sit down for an hour at some point with your opponent and fight your heart out. After a week the standings will be updated (usual win=3 points, draw=1 point and loss=0 points) and then your next opponent will be chosen for week 2.

If in unfortuate circumstance your opponent is unable to appear or you cant make a match i will have the power to force a draw/forfeit on whomevers behalf. But i'll hope it wont come to that :)

Two Divisions

With numbers unconfirmed as yet we are still unsure whether there will be a need for two divisions within the league but early signs are pointing to yes. What this means is that the thn'ers will be split into two groups Division A and Division B.

Division A players will fight amoungst themselves and Division B players will fight amounst themselves with no interaction between the two. The winner of these groups will then go onto face each other in the final.

Reason for this is purely time based. With 12 ppl all having to fight one another in a championship it would take 11 weeks. Split that into two divisions and we're looking at 5. As this is our first escapade into this game we dont want it running too long. Also two divisions gives us a chance to split up any of the 'double parked' races so people arent fighting the same race two weeks running.

Thirdly: The Match Itself

The standard turn based game of 16 turns of 4 minutes each will be played under championship rules

I know we've had alot of interest in the real time game but it was decided best to gauge how well this first venture goes. If enthusiasm stays constant then theres no reason for us not to start a second real time league.

The other bits

Max lvl for characters= 7
Number of Apothecaries allowed= 1 (the number didnt go any higher)
Max Fan Factor= 18
Max number of re-rolls allowed per team= 8
Max number of cheerleaders allowed per team= 10

Kick off events= yes
Star players able to be bought= yes
Training before match= no
Extra Enducements= no
Equipment= no

As for most of us this will be the first time competetivly playing blood bowl the emphasis has been mostly on keeping it simple. Training, enducements and equipment may make an appearance later on if we do it regularly.
All players will still be able to bribe the ref, buy and extra apothecary or buy and extra re-roll before a game as usual.

If i've forgotten anything panda i'm sure will get my back. Hope to see you all on the pitch.

I guess the main points to emphasise are these:

We're amazed at how positive the response has been to our initial suggestion of a league.

That said, this will require a level of commitment of time - probably 1 1/2 hours a week for 6ish weeks. - Think carefully if you are likely to be able to provide this. Remember, if you fail to show, you are essentially denying your opponent his game, ability to skill up etc.

For this very reason, we have decided to try to keep this first league short. - If it goes well, we certainly will make it a long term persistent thing. This 'first try' is essentially to see what works, what doesn't, who likes the game and who doesn't.

The time commitment is worth mentioning for a third time: You will be playing the league with the same team. No chopping and changing of teams in the middle. So be sure you have chosen the correct race for how you want to play in the league - Think carefully. Particularly regarding apothecaries and rerolls - Having just had my vastly more experienced skaven team hammered well past the point of viability (3 key players dead, and not enough money to even field a complete team) by Ronin's essentially unscathed orcs, it is essential to have some back up players.

Bearing this in mind, we want to actually start the league over the next couple of days. Those who are hanging in the balance: Yay or nay ASAP please.

Yeah. I'm up for this totally. My Lizard team is awaiting to be played against, freshly made, 1000 points.

Ok, sorry Ronin, but I'm going to have to change my team name. Greenpiece is taken, and there's no way around that that I can find. My team now is the distinctly more boringly named "Lorien Longrunners".

The best tactic against dwarfs is to leave your players 1v3 where one of those 3 is bob's deathroller. I won't lie to you it gets very messy.
