We're falling behind, peeps! We're now in the 2300's. Surely someone other than me must be keeping their computer on 24/7? Come on! It's for a good cause!

I'd installed the SMP client a while back but it looks like it's not been working correctly (or at all) on my machine. I've dropped the SMP client and moved back to the standard one so I should be back helping shortly.

I installed the graphical client and found that it was crashing and actually causing system instability at times, so I am steering clear of F@H now...

I think you'll find that they have updated their client quite a few times since then. I'm running the SMP client (for multi-core CPU's) and it works like a charm. There's also a GPU client for those with monster graphics cards (although the GPU/SMP clients are in beta).

I previously had problems with an older SMP build, but after just installing the new one it looks like the problems have been resolved... let's get some work units done :)

I've installed it now, Can't remember why I didn't install it when we first started :/. Think I'm just running on 1 Core at the moment though. I shall have to investigate and play with the advanced options to see If I actually know what I'm doing and can get it running on both cores :p.

I've had to disable this.

I have a dual core processor and it was hogging all my processor time on one of the cores, severely limiting my system's performance when I was trying to run a game.

I disabled the option that said something like "lock itself to one core" but it was still using 50% of my processor time in the background...

Also, the process priority is set to lowest as default iirc, so the only thing I notice when running some games(crysis and the like) is the RAM it's hogging. If it's not, just change it :)

Is there still an option to only have it unpaused while the screensaver is active? For if it is, I cannot find it.

How do I get F@H to launch on start-up? I'm sure it used to, but I can't find an option anywhere...

I tried using the version of this that runs on my ATi graphics card...

It would seem that it didn't detect when I was playing a game properly so everything was llllllaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I should probably code something more useful but this is quite good fun (in a very geeky kind of way).

Only slightly off topic, but if anyone has a free hour or two, look into how protein folding works, and how it can be used.
One of our modules the last few months has been on how protein folding can be used in computing, and it's surprising what people have managed to do.
By some complicated process, they've got proteins playing tic-tac-toe (published paper).
Might be of interest to any (all) geeks out there
:)
