Rojaws suggested I go to this after muttering about it for a while and as the early bird booking is nearly up and I figure the hostel will fill up fairly quickly too I've booked myself in. Looks like you're all out of seats around where you guys are so I've put in a request for AA-10 but we'll have to see how it works out.

I was about to say that you should be in there in that original CoD team list anyway. I'm going to try/beg/bribe my boss today. Had a very brief one line conversation yesterday as we were crazy busy. He wasn't that positive but I'm sure with some fluttering of eye lashes I can convince him. I've paid for my slot anyway and will take the admin fee hit if I can't make it. Will hopefully know by the end of today.

I've been playing quite a bit recently.
I'm still the first to die on S&D though
But I can now normally take at least 1 other with me. Which is all good
I think that given three months notice a reasonable employer will agree to a particular holiday arrangement, especially if it's not one of the prime holiday patches such as Christmas or Easter. Mid-summer is a perfectly reasonable time to be taking a few days off. After all, legally speaking, you only require twice the length of the leave as notice (e.g. 6 days for 3 days off).
In my opinion, at the point where an employer is refusing holiday that far in advance something has already gone wrong. Even if it's crunch time or busy season or whatever.
Offering something back can help, though. If they work over Christmas, you can offer to work that patch instead...
