Hi All,
This came up out of a conversation in IRC where quite a few of us were discussing our BMI scores (not pretty) and our desire to do something about it. My thoughts then shifted to, well why not get sponsorship to do something good whilst doing something good ... its a karmic circle of happiness!
Here's the thought:
Those who want to lose weight (and who are prepared to publicly declare their initial and final BMI) sign up to the 3 month THN weight loss extravagansa. After 3 months the person who has lost the most BMI wins a small prize (possibly latex based ).
Those who want to support those losing weight sponsor the event (this is a group thing so no individual sponsorship needed). Sponsored people cannot also be sponsored - the only way the weight losers can make money for charity is by losing the pounds.
Proceeds minus a little for something silly for the winner goes to buy some nice things off the wish lists for: http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ particularly Alder Hey and Manchester hospitals as we're mostly UK based (we'll consider others on request).
Start date will be announced once we've sorted the organisation and got a full list of those interested. External sponsorship is welcome although money will need to be handled by a member of THN to keep things workable (so we can collect it all in one place).
For the record I'll definitely be in the fat camp category and trying to shed those pounds for some latex love.
Finally sponsorship value will be calculated against TOTAL BMI LOST (to one decimal place). So in effect you sponsor an amount per BMI point. If someone puts on weight during the process then obviously you pay less overall. As an example you could sponsor £0.25 per BMI and if 10 of us lose 20 BMI overall then you pay £5.
Current list of those interested in being sponsored:
* Haven
* ThatBloke
* Wol
* Bacon
Regards
Haven
