My personal favorite is running, but seeing as most of you guys have joint issues (no wonder with the higher weights), swimming would be a stellar idea, even if you dont particularly like it. Doesnt put strain on your knees, is aerobic, can be done at any time of day/year... Ofc you cant just float around for 60 minutes and have to actually TRY a bit to make it burn some fat, but you should have that motivation. I think three times a week for one hour should be enough...?

That implies that people can find 5 spare hours in their week to go swimming! lol. By the time I get home from work at 7, I just can't be arsed to go back out again for another hour and a half, and still have enough time to fit in other stuff to do around the house.

Should try and force myself to go really. hmm.

Well good luck losing weight then :) You know, it wont lose itself... ;) Some kind of effort will be required, unless you just intend to go on a Yo-yo diet.

You don't need 5 hours of swimming to loose weight..You can just cut out crap food, and yo can loose it.

Go en-route home from work or vice versa ;)

I'm not jumping off the itchen toll to go swimming in the river.

You seem to imply that there are a multitude of swimming pools on my route home from work. Theres a dog paddling pool.... and theres a company who sells swimming pools.....

No, but you can pack a towel and shizzle, and DIVERT on your way to or from work, the latter means you don't have to get up earlier :D

whichever way, the swimming pool which I can get entry for cheaply is still a 15 minute drive from work :p

And no, I'm not walking up the M3 to get there....

Here's some motivation.. this was me two years ago:

You've seen me at the LAN.. yeah I'm not skinny but i'm no longer a walrus either.

I too work full time and have little spare time in the day. And I like to spend that gaming when I'm not doing chores.

I found lunchtime activities to be the easiest, swimming a couple days a week, swam a mile each time (boss allowed me an extended lunch which I made up),and walking at least 30 minutes the other days. I couldn't cope with gym after work, too boring. I did take up badminton on Saturday with a friend, and since it was at the gym always ended up doing an hour or so there too anyway.

Since my move to Milton Keynes I've been putting on weight, but I'm a member of a gym and have started walking again. I'm also working on cutting down on booze, I hope to have maybe 1 a fortnight.

Biggest tip is not to rush. Eat *slightly* less. If you drink a lot, half it. And start with just 2-3 walks a week on your lunch. It adds up.

Meh, don't eat stuff you don't enjoy. Diets / lifestyle etc has to be something you can be happy with long term. The only guaranteed way to lose weight is to change what you eat and do to something you can honestly say you enjoy or are at least ok with.

I hate salads.

For lunch today I have some home-cooked roast chicken (with herbs and spices) and rice. very tasty and not unhealthy. I even eat the skin, but you know what, everything is fine in moderation.

Somtimes I eat steak or lamb chops. I do buy lean and trim the fat though, plus I use a griddle pan, which drains a lot of the fat but everything is still super-nom. I eat chips - oven chips, small portions. Or potato waffles. Or rice.

Per week a bottle of wine, 2-3 choc bars, cpl bags crisps, eating a *little* animal fat or skin. It's all fine. So long as you can get a couple of hours exercise in there too.

Only things I'd say be ultra cautious of, or even give up completely, are:

Sugary drinks (the ultimate hidden calories, 2 cans a day is like 20% your RDA)
High sat. fat products - full fat milk (buy semi skimmed!), cheese (nb. Fine in moderation and good to use in cooking I know), cheesecake, creamy deserts, creamy drinks.
Chocolate (again, I can't give this up, but if you're eating 50g or more a day ure doing it wrong)
BOOZE (insane amount of calories, plus alcohol turns into a very difficult to get rid of fat). This is my ultimate vice. If you must drink, try limit to once a week and even then 4 pints, or a bottle of wine, or 4 shots of vodka (latter is least cals).
Crisps - Try to switch to baked snacks like quavers, wotsits, monster munch. Fried crisps litke standard walkers or kettle chips have much more fat in.

mmm i love salads. It's annoying when all the stuff at iseries events is so unsalady.

It's just having the effort to cook, as I cook fairly healthily. Its just when i cant be arsed and just gorge on pasta. Refrain from eating lots of carbs. Do you need that much pasta / rice?

My usual healthy diet would be a small bowl of cereal in the morning with semi skimmed milk. Salad at lunchtime, with some fruit (tub of grapes / clementine), and then a small dinner. Once I've done this enough, my stomach shrinks enough that I dont feel as hungry anymore.

I managed to lose about a stone and a half in a cupla months this time last year..... and then I moved house when my stress levels went up so much that I ended up eating a lot more again. Sad times.

Annoyignly I've got the company christmas meal next friday. Lots of food and alcohol for free, and I can't have it. I dont usually drink much when im at home anyway, only when out. Damnit.

You eat more then I do in a week, Silky. O.O

Where did I say what I eat in a day? I didn't. I said a week. And even then my examples were guidelines, not what I personally consume (I go some weeks with 1 choccy and zero crisps for example).

Have it. It's a one-off, so go nuts.

So long as you are cutting down then in the long term one bad night won't hurt you, and if anything completely blocking out things like this will lead to depression and comfort eating :p

I've already decided I have an entire month per year where I let loose (December). Very much enjoyed it, put on 6lbs which I know I can now lose.

I was amazed at the calorie content in pasta, it doesn't appear to be healthy at all and I always thought it was considered a healthy food. I don't touch it, and I only have small portions of rice.
