So, for a single player only game, what methods besides DRM would you recommend a publisher/developer use to protect their product?

Serial keys on scratchcards would seriously limit the ability to "share" keys. Coming up with far more complicated keys than just alpha-numerics too, using symbools.

All I can really say, is; bahahahaha!

Colonel Korn writes:
"Ubisoft's recent announcement that upcoming games would require a constant internet connection in order to play has been discussed at length on Slashdot ('The Awful Anti-Pirate System That Will Probably Work'). Many were of the opinion that this new, more demanding DRM would have effectiveness to match its inconvenience, at least financially justifying its use. Others assumed that it would be immediately cracked, as is usually the case, leaving the inconvenience for paying customers and resulting in a superior product for pirates. As usual, the latter group was right. Though Ubisoft won't yet admit it, Skid-Row managed to crack the new DRM less than a day after it was first released."

It was just a matter of time, really :p

Aaand just because:

Apoc used to be a Cool Guy (tm) :(

Also; this, along with the complete 'new' direction C&C4 is taking (more RPG than RTS), force me to not buy it.

you have to have an always on net connection even when doing single player, but if your connection drops NONE of the progress you make will be saved, even when your connection returns (even though you can continue playing). You have to restart the game to initiate the connection to EA's servers again...

At least Ubisoft patched AC2 so that your progress was saved whether you got to, and originally had it so it saved your last checkpoint. Still totally against it, but well done EA for being dicks...

That sounds more like a bug that they'll have to fix before release than intentional?

I mean why would it be intentional? Nothing to be gained from them or the player.
