Is anyone else having a "Unable to find games" message, or just nothing coming up when you search for servers?

I can find games fine. When I try to join them through the server browser, however, it says "Please wait", and then silently fails. Oh, and it logs me out of my account at the same time, but keeps the server browser up.

The only way I have found to reliably join games is to use the "Play Now" button, so I go to a random server. I've been able to join a server in my favourites list twice, out of about 20 tries.

This does not make me happy in the slightest. (MP) Gameplayer is meh to average. The unlocks make people ridiculously more powerful than the starting guns, meaning that the first half an hour is a trial in not smashing your monitor with your mouse. Oh, and I got 13,000 odd points in a single round by being an engineer and sitting in the top turret of a tank, jumping out to repair and then jumping back in. Say hello to the 5000 point award for doing 100 repairs, and then the 5000 point award for doing 100 squad repairs. Plus the 4 awards for doing 7 repairs in a round. Plus all the kill streaks for sitting in a tank and gunning down infantry and choppers. Oh, and using this "play" method gets me the top rank on the server for 3 rounds in a row. Reminds me a lot of the stat padding that was possible in 2142's Titan mode; sit in the top corridor as the support, and just hold everyone up, lots of kills and lots of pins.

So yeah, it's pretty meh for me. BF2 is still more perfect than this in many ways.

However, I like how choppers, though powerful, aren't impossible to kill. The top turret in tanks seems to do very well against them.

Aside from the issues with getting into a game in the first place, and the fact that my friends list was wiped yesterday, once actually in a game I am enjoying it ALOT.

Got into a squad with other THNers yesterday and it reminded me of the good ol' days of BF2 :D

It was awesomely good fun and I loved it, so much so that I stayed up way too late :/

1 missile is all it takes :)

I'm having a blast with this game but my main beef at the moment is how ineffective and naff squads are. I understand that with the spawning on a squad member you couldnt have more than 4, otherwise you would have almost have a third/half a team spawning on one guy. I hate how theres no squad leader and no squad commands. Looking at bf2 and 2142, this seems like a massive step backwards.

you do have the squad commands - you can point yourself at an objective and press Q to say "we need to blow the crap out of this objective first" (and I have received Squad command points for doing so) but afaik you can't pick a spot on the map (say, a building) and say "move here".

Also, as we found last night, you are unable to kick people from your squad if someone who you don't want in it joins...

Quoting from the 3rd post here:

Q is used as a context-sensitive command button. Basically the commo-rose in a single button.

Look at medic while injured - "I need healing"
Look at Assault - "I need ammo"
Look at enemy - spot the enemy
Look at objective - attack/defend order based on what team you're on/who owns the point
Look at Vehicle - "Give me a lift"
If as Assault/Medic you look at other teammates you can tell them you can heal/resupply them also engineer can say he can repair if he targets a vehicle with repair tool equipped.

Sounds to me like you were rewarded for being good :P - Squad repair points are 30 rather than 20, i dont really get this, same with almost any squad interaction, i mean theres only 4 ppl in ur squad doesnt seem worth rewarding to me.

Certainly some unlock guns are better than the starting guns, but this is not true in every class, in sniper, i have 250 kills, with more than half in the starting gun, and when i was starting out as medic i got 100 in the crappy remmington 870 (the pump action SG), engineer is fairly similar, though for assualt, the final unlock is a joke(zero recoil.), i got it for 1 round the other day and did got what i am sure is my highest streak as assault(5).

Enjoyed the vid bloke.

If you call sitting at the back lines in a tank, and repairing said tank whenever it got hit, and not actually helping the rest of the team in anyway, then YEP! SURE DID!

It's exactly that sort of play style that made 2142 feel dry and boring when compared to BF2. Sure, you get loads of kills and points, but unless you actually go and cap some points, the team will lose (or at least find it a lot harder to win) (please note this sentence is an over generalisation to the game, rather than to sitting in the tank at the back of the map). There is no incentive to move forward as you are being rewarded for being a dick, really.

Also, BF2 was incredibly hard to rank up in (like, 25,000 points between level 5 and 6 or something), so I'm glad that they changed that in 2142. However, in BC2 it seems that I rank up every other map. I get unlocks pretty much every round, which is nice as there are quite a few of them (quite like the specialisations), but in 2 dozen rounds, I'm level 6 or something. Just feels like they've missed the sweet spot a little, and gone and made it too EASY to rank up.

Still, randomly mubblings and all, I guess.

The console kiddies wouldn't have enough of an attention span to play that long... :p

You sir, just hit the proverbial nail on the head. That can account for everything that the game doesn't feel "right" about. No prone, ADS toggle rather than hold, etc. etc.

Well unfortunately I think we're going to have to get used to it :(

Hey grumpy old guys, ever think that maybe it's the proper adults who don't have time to be playing games 8 hours a day?

NOPE! Point in case: WoW! Ipso facto, you're wrong! (Though really I just wanted to put "ipso facto" into a sentence).

So why are all the WoWers complaining that Blizz is making the game too easy, then?

In Cryo Sleep
... ADS toggle rather than hold ...

So, does that mean BC2 has the type of ADS where you click once to bring the gun up to your eye, and then you have to click again to revert back to hipfire? Or do you mean it's the kind where you ADS as long as the button is held down? I'll assume the former.

First point! I've always used the first method (two clicks) when I'm playing FPS games, it just feels natural with CoD. Far Cry 2 had the 'hold down' thing forced upon you, and I really didn't like it at all. If it had been the other way around in BC2, and you were forced into using the 'hold down' ADS with a mouse, it would irritate me greatly.

Second point! From my experiences, console FPS games almost always use the 'button hold' ADS rather than the 'two click'. In that case, isn't BC2's ADS system a departure from the typical console type?

EDIT: Wait, I am thinking hard about this now. It's split 50/50 mebbe - some games have you hold the left trigger to ADS (good). Some games have you click in the right analog stick to toggle ADS (bad). Importantly, BF2:Modern Combat used the sticky-clicky version, so I suppose that means all BF games use the sticky-clicky version. Which means it probably did have a knock-on effect in the PC version.

The whole point: Why couldn't they just have put it in as an option?
