Not too bad!

For those of you unaware Folding@Home released a GPU client yesterday for ATi X1900 which, they claim produces a 20% to 30% increase in speed!

I downloaded it last night and tried it but apparently it doesnt work with Cat 6.9 but only the outdated 6.5 and 6.10 which hasnt been released yet! I guess I'll have to wait until 6.10 comes out with the suitable changes.

Actually, the x1900 client is up to fourty times faster. It currently works only with the catalyst 6.5 drivers. On 6.10 it works but it's very slow apparently.

Finally the awesome power of graphics cards is finding new applications.

I've been folding a bit myself for THN as part of some stability testing, i've stopped again because i'd rather save 50W of power.

I'm not the sort of person that leaves my PC on, conserving money is in my best interest. On that note, no point me getting whatever this is because I'd never use it.

hmmm i downloaded and installed this, but had nothing but problems with it as I couldn't leave it on in the background as it took the focus away from other programs...

i.e. when I tried to run games if this was running in the system tray (paused or not) then the games would minimize every 10 seconds or so. not good!

anyone else have this problem?

yeah bloke i had this problem, although i have X2, so i just played around with the cpu affinity a bit and it worked ok. Although i still tend to quit it when i'm gaming. also set all the bits in the config to as other program friendly as possible.
just poke it a bit and it might just work.

Might try the console version then, if you're still up for it. I can't really comment on the GUI version as I've never tried it.

ok so i'm running (i think) the command line version of this in the background from startup... I was wondering how I can check its progress?

In the folder that the service is running from there should be a unitinfo.txt file. That gives your current status. However, for an overall picture you'll need to check on your personal page on the web site.

Slowly closing in on the top 2000 (quite a gain since Doc's repost), but we've currently only got three active members (four active processors). Come join in!

I originally set myself a target of 20 blocks, then promptly forgot about doing anymore.
Another 20 blocks coming up me thinks.
