OK, cool. Mind you, I'd like to take priority in this over you guys - so when I CAN and FEEL LIKE playing I might ask you to log off and such - but I think we can strike some balance there :) Just wanted to make sure you guys will be reasonable with my Steam and stuff.

Right, /bumpity bump.

There's another CBT weekend scheduled for October 2nd-4th. Unfortunately not many new participants who haven't taken part in the previous CBTs will be invited, however if by some stroke of luck you are, be sure not to miss out!

Agency vs Agency style battles and territory control is still under development and will not be subject to testing during this period - means it'll be likely very pimped out when it comes out!

I know I didn't provide much information during the last CBTs, mostly because I'm under the NDA which means I cannot post images or reveal much about the actual gameplay but also because it doesn't look like you lot are that much interested :) If I'm wrong and anyone is, be sure to contact me via MSN/ICQ or somesuch and we'll have a chat about it ^^

In public, pretty much all I can say is "It's a great game (tm)" and that the four classes do feel very balanced - everyone hates Recons (~rogues) but that's to be expected :D Even medics and engineers prove to be formidable enemies when encountered in 1v1 situation - which is not seen very often (would you like to face a pyro as a TF2 medic?).
Also the specs and gear layouts play a big role in determining your class feel and unique abilities, so that's another of the non-classical shooter aspect coming to life in this interesting game.

Anyways, stay tuned, I might even write some more in the near future :)

Riiight,
we recently finished CBT-1 phase (levelling, PvP "battlegrounds" combat, upgrades, some PvE) and are looking forwards to CBT-2 phase (agency vs. agency large-scale organized PvP combat, global persistent hex map domination).

Some new information was released couple days ago about the pricing scheme which I think you'll find interesting a quite well thought out.

We’ve got some big news coming out of Hi-Rez Studios today regarding the payment methods for their upcoming sci-fi MMOFPS, Global Agenda. Hi-Rez Studios has announced today that Global Agenda will be available for $49.99 as either a retail box package or a digital download, but more importantly, that there will be no monthly subscription fee required for Global Agenda.

Instead, a subscription package will be offered as an option to customers, which will be known as Global Agenda: Conquest. Customers who opt for the subscription package will receive access to the persistent Alliance vs. Alliance territory control gameplay as well as access to major content updates. For fans familiar with Monte Cristo’s CitiesXL, this arrangement is somewhat similar to the Cities XL vs. Cities XL: Planet Offer.

Global Agenda Executive Producer Todd Harris also offers some comments on the announcement:

"Throughout our Beta process, our fans, players and reviewers have consistently told us that Global Agenda's combat system is exceptionally fun and that they would love to play it as a multiplayer shooter. This single-purchase, non-subscription model will enable players to fully experience Global Agenda’s award-winning persistent shooter gameplay."

"At the same time, many players are seeking a deeper experience, and want to engage in large-scale campaigns between player-created groups over limited territory and resources. These players can opt for the Conquest subscription plan which includes our persistent AvA world domination gameplay, and other features typically associated with MMOs."

Below you'll find details on both the base Global Agenda package and the optional subscription-based Global Agenda: Conquest:

Global Agenda (one time purchase - $49.99 MSRP) includes:
• Creation of up to eight different agent characters
• Character visual customization
• Access to all combat weapons and devices
• Cooperative Player vs. Environment missions against the Commonwealth NPC faction, AI-controlled enemies, and Boss Fights
• Matchmade Player vs. Player missions with five different game types and over 20 unique maps
• Character progression through 30 levels
• Achievement and unlocks system for individual characters
• Player Inventory for suits, flair, dyes, upgrades, and loot
• Virtual Reality practice fighting area
• Vendors and accumulation of in-game currency
• Text chat with multiple channels
• Built in voice chat during missions
• Ability to join an established player-created agency
• All play is on our single-shard, hosted server environment to ensure convenient and consistent gaming experience.
• Ability to sign up for one free month of subscription at registration (credit card required, can be cancelled at any time)

Global Agenda: Conquest ($12.99 per month, $11.49/mo for 3 month, $9.99/mo for 6 month) includes:
• Access to Alliance vs. Alliance (AvA) World Domination gameplay
- A massive scale campaign between player created agencies and alliances over scarce territory and resources on a persistent world map.
- Attack and Defend Territories in zones that match your agency's schedule
- Agency and Alliance Management – Create and maintain persistent player groups and officer ranks
- Creation and Upgrading of Facilities - Control production and output
- Base Raids – involving up to 60 players per side; coordinated between 6 different strike teams within linked territory instances
- Agency Achievement System, Leveling, and Recognition
• Auction House with bidding and buyouts
• Mail System
• Upgrade Text and Voice chat to support multiple channels and strike teams
• Player Crafting with blueprints
• Additional character customization options including elite character suits, dye colors, and seasonal flair
• Ongoing Co-Op content at max character level
• Ongoing AvA content, multiplayer PvP content, and new social areas

Global Agenda is set to be "development complete" by the end of the year and is being targeted for a Q1 2010 release.

TL;DR version: don't be a slacker and read it ;)

So, in summary, you get a fully fledged shooter for a one-off box/download cost at normal shop prices. Then, if you so desire, you can add MMO features to this shooter for a monthly fee, including crafting, guilds (aka Agencies), trade, etc, etc.

I like the approach.

Yes, although some MMO features (including the guilds, for instance) are available even for the one-time purchase and the main thing the Conquest subscription provides is the territory control aspect of the game (agency vs. agency combat etc.).

Well, Psi, I haven't played Hellgate, but I can assure you GA is not a sack of crap. This last post was mostly intended to bring up the issue of payment options and the fairly unusual idea they employed - and the comparison of activities available to each :)

It´s a different aspect of tha game, rather than extras, really. One can be played without the other quite easily (or, well, the single-purchase can be played easily without whatever the recurring fee offers).

Why does it need new content releases? (Indeed, one could ask that of any well formed FPS.) A good shooter remains good, even if its graphics become outmoded or its theme old hat. It's why people play Counter Strike years and years on from its release; it's well put together. Sure, the crowd stinks these days and it's full of cheats despite VAC and similar efforts but that diminishes the community of the game, not the game itself. Any game can suffer from a crap community and will be worse for it. It says something that people play a game despite the community around it.
The first Quake game is a good example.
The graphics became seriously outdated. But still there were both single, groups and clans for -years- playing it. Heck. Many -still- play it as it is to this day considered one of the best in the entire series, outdoing Q3A in terms of GamePlay :p
(I should know. I used to lead one of the better all female Quake clans*giggles*)
Sure. A lot of jerks in that game as well. But it was still good ;)

Reminds me of Hellgate London... It died out pretty fast.

Hellgate died because they couldn't handle the playerbase, didn't it? (I seem to remember that being mentioned in the member's section)
Hellgate still exists, though.
But since RedBana took over the financing for it after it went down and helped further it for a while, it is only available in certain countries in the East now, sadly.
