Grand Theft Auto IV

Infuriating, that (for me, also, because it means I won't have it today either), but I try not to let it get to me. I sympathise in some ways, I doubt Play would let down their customers deliberately; it was just unlucky for us that the release date was two days after a weekend. If they'd posted on Saturday, chances are it'd have been delivered on Monday (early). Their only option was to post yesterday or face the wrath of Take 2, which probably wasn't an attractive choice.
Even if it does arrive late, I'm not going to let one or two days of missed playtime upset me since, well, it is only one or two days of play time. Although I'm disappointed that it hasn't arrived today, you have to ask yourself - what is the tangible benefit of getting it 24 hours earlier? Are you even going to care in a week's time once you have it in your hands? Is it going to affect your enjoyment of the game all that much? With those thoughts, I manage to restrain myself from smashing the nearest window :p

I dont have the game and i don't have it pre-ordered.

While getting the game late will most likely NOT affect your enjoyment of the game, the simple fact is that people have made time on the day that this game was supposed to have been released so that they could play the game (thereby enjoying it). That free time has now been wasted due to the ineptitude of a number of large internet-based companies due to the fact that they hall all broken their promise to have the games delivered to the customers ON THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED.

I do not like having my time wasted by idiotic companies and their stupid policies. Common sense, yet again loses out to the desire for money.

So WHAT if some people happen to get the game a day early? Is it really that bad???

The reason the game is out on a Tuesday here is because I believe that it is a simultaneous worldwide release - and although here Game Releases are typically on a Friday, in America they are normally on a tuesday.

Hence the Tuesday release date.

That's fine for you, you don't have exams in a month. So yes, it will affect my enjoyment if I get it a week late.

Fairy muff, sorry I didn't know that at the time. Well, if there are eggs-hams coming up then maybe starting GTAIV is a bad idea :p

So, forgive me for asking, what's the obsession with ordering your games online? I plan to walk down the street to Future Shop, grab one of the hundreds of copies sitting there, and then go play. No hassle.

If I wanted to be obsessive, I could've went to the midnight opening last night.

I'm at work, by the time I get out most of the shops will be closed so it's much easier for me to just place an order online and let it be. Plus, I'm fed up of going down the shops to buy something, wasting petrol and time, just to find out it's too dear or out of stock.

Whatever method fits your lifestyle, really.

The obsession is having a copy. No shops here have them. When my copy failed to arrive I went to about 12 different places and none of them had any copies. Coupled with the fact that there have never been any problems ordering online it is just as easy to do it that way. That is why I ordered online.

Oh and congratulations that you are so much better than us and having Hundreds of copys to choose from, maybe you'll find a shiny one you can see your face in and think how much better off you are than the rest of us.

Often, shorter opening hours. I can't speak for Canadian opening hours, but stores in the US seem to think nothing of staying open 'til 19:00, 20:00 or later. Stores in the UK like to close at 17:00 and think that 17:30 is "late opening". :p

So, online shopping works around some UK shopping idiocies.

Its a sad, sad day... I should have pre-ordered :'(

I've been in 6 shops, and everywhere there was sold out. I was standing in a line of 7 people, and the guy in front asked if they got GTA4, when the answer was a no, the entire line of people walked out of the shop...

Everyone was looking for that game, and there was nothing but big signs saying "SOLD OUT", well... no, I live in Denmark, so they said "UDSOLGT"

I sure hope that I find a copy soon :)

As for MGS4 Which bob made a comment about and a link to kojimas view of the game. I'm currently playing the beta and its a hell of a lot better than COD4 and the full game will be amazing. I've translated that mess as best I can. I don't know who Kojima is so I doubt I posted anything about him. I've also always said PS3 will suck until things like GTA and MGS appear for it.

Regarding GTA. All in can say so far is that the handling on the cars is rubbish. It's actually making the game less enjoyable than it could be. You almost have to slow to a complete stop to get round a slight corner. Gone are the brilliant fun handling of the cars in San Andreas and previous GTAs. It's like driving a tank around. These cars are harder to drive than the insane difficulty vehicles in PGR4 and that is just rubbish.

On the other hand it is very pretty and still a lot of fun.

I now have a spare, BNIB copy of GTA4 for the X360 that I have no need for.

Happy to sell on to a THNer, which I'd do for £40 plus P&P (about £1/£1.25 to UK). It cost me a bit more than that but I got my other copy for £39.99 so I reckon that I'll be balancing up just fine.

TB mentioned he'd be interested so I'd take his request first. Aside, first come first served. If I've not had any interest on this by, say, Friday then I'll list it on Amazon marketplace.

If it's that late I'd imagine it got lost in the post. Bitch at play (and I mean bitch) and they'll give you some goodies.

Anyway... THIS GAME IS MADE OF FUCKING WIN! I love it! I agree with Bob's point about cars handling like a fat man in an electric wheelchair, but it doesn't detract at all from the game.

Also, we need some multifun! :D

Do you think it will be like San Andreas where you have 'skill'. the more driving skill you have the easier cars are to drive???

just thort really but would be a nice feature :)

If it makes you feel any better, Tbone, I didn't get my copy either! It's just the typical anti-Scottish bullshit I've come to expect from [strike]English[/strike] Royal Mail these days, English wankers. Hopefully it'll come tomorrow, any time before the weekend but any later and I'll have to call them.

Is that a bad thing? I tried Vice City again recently and it's like driving go-karts - tap left slightly and you do a 180 spin. I preferred the sluggish body-rolling handling from the Driver series, I can only hope GTAIV's is something similar.

Smacks of mismanagement at a local distribution centre, given both you and T-Bone are in the same rough locality. I imagine they have multiple warehouses and it's the one near you that's stuffed things up. Sucks.

I'm not finding the cars to be a problem at all but I think that being used to the X360 controller may have something to do with it.

However, Tets, I believe you may be pleased with the apparent weight of the cars. Some of them do, indeed, corner like a drunken elephant, but some just take a little working with to get smooth and speedy driving from.

Sorry bob if it wernt you. I just couldnt be aresed to find who did but ithought it was you..
And for the driving yea its harder but all they did was make it more realistic.
So i guess you hate driving do you or just cos it makes the damn races in that game to hard!
