looking rather nice, but it would be interesting to see the current design with the darker blue, slightly speckled background from the first one as i really like that and the current design, but not too enthused with those 2 colours.

and with the white silhouette instead?

I'm not sure at what point elD was going to submit the designs / what time they needed to be submitted by, so might not get a chance to make a mockup to see what it looks like.

good question, the white tree might work better, but the black probably fits better with the silhouettes...

even if it's too late would be interesting to see anyway as i would probably steal it for a desktop background while at ze lans :)

Have bundled the with and without portal versions into a zip file. jpegs rendered at "best settings" for 8ft by 2ft at 150dpi

should be at http://games.thehavennet.org.uk/~wol/thn_logos.zip

Love it! Orange is the most pleasing.

My only (I hope constructive) criticism is with the background text overlays.

1, The [THN] could do with being a narrower, bolder font.

2, In the top right corner all the text seems to merge together, can't actually read what it's saying.

3, If you want a radical suggestion, I'd try completely removing one of the top two horizontal background fonts. I like the dotty one, maybe take out the other just to see what it looks like? That would leave the upper left blank, but could put another silhouette there (maybe a flying wow mount or something more famous).

Also a just for fun suggestion.. how about a large greyscale semi-transparent (same shade as background fonts) render of the companion cube, in the background somewhere to the left at the bottom (near the crouching gun guy, where we have no background action).

p.p.s. Since all the movie artists do it, why not try the well known blue+orange effect just to see what it looks like? Maybe have the floor blue, or sky blue floor orange..

1) well i had a bolder font originally, and then bob pointed out that it should be uppercase. Thats neuropol (which was used originally ages ago for thn stuffs). I couldnt find another nice font that I liked. Feel free to go on dafont.org, stick in "[THN]" as the preview text and see if you can find any good ones. Am happy to accept suggestions of what to use there :)

2) The text at the top is more meant to create a texture rather than being legible, so I was never really going for the look where you could read what it says. Was just meant to try and break up the monotony of the background up there.

3) Can try the WCC thing in the background (its black, but with transparency set to about 30% iirc, so you get the layered colour when overlaying 2 semitransparent things)

WoW Mount?? Will need more help on what one of those may be and where im likely to find a silhouette image of a flying one :p

P.S Love that link!

1, http://www.dafont.com/nougat.font?text=[THN]?

2, Yup understood, but I do think it looks a little cluttered/busy in the top right. The dotty text with the main text over it, and thn in massive letters overlapping the top right, would probaly look neater and still give you the overall effect of texture.

3, Just thought it'd be amusing to have WCC somewhere :D Wow mount is possibly irrelevant if you'er not removing any of the background text, but i'll try grab one just incase. Watch this space.

Whats wrong with the gradient? :S

I took it to mean he was suggesting orange > blue gradient, similar to my idea. :)

Well it looks like there aren't any silhouettes out there for wow so nm. Although thinking a bit more, one of the starcraft terran battlecruisers would have been better :D

Not a personal fan of that font. Looks like someones forgotten to cut off the bits of plastic injection moulding at the ends :p heh. Will give it a try! http://www.dafont.com/dock-11.font?text=[THN] thats fairly chunky / narrow?

I know what you mean about the top right corner with the multiple layers though.

Could try a orange>blue gradient. I sort of liked the portal reference on either side with the orange / blue though :p

I did actually try to get some minecraft stuff in, but cubes are really hard to get silhouettes of without it looking stupid. I imagine a WCC in a semitransparent state might work a lot better. Will see how it looks.

Creeper silhouette might work for a MC reference, given that it's a fairly recognisable one, and isn't quite as 'blocky' as some other models (it has tiny feet!)

Yup I like that font. As for the gradient.. some stuff in my head is:

1, Leave all the black bits black (incl ground) and try a left>right orange>blue gradient effect.
2, As above, but top>bottom orange>blue.
3, Play around with changing the actual ground colour to orange with blue sky.. mess about with shades/gradients on each.

I know it's probably too late to try most of these out, just adding my wild 'n wonderful thoughts :D
