Urgh, just got up... playing until 4:30 last night. Summer holidays ftw!

Anyhoo, I've got to Fort Frolic, so that's where I'm at the moment.

So far the game has been okay. Splicers seem to step it up difficulty wise, even when fully researched they're taking my pumped up machine gun in the face a few times.

My thoughts on the whole death thing before I played where along the lines of BiG D, but now having played it they're a little different. I only die in a serious combative sense when trying to take out the Big Daddies, at the start of what would be the second area I got pummelled about 6 times by a Rosie before she dropped dead! Now, when you die as you know you reappear somewhere else on the map like nothing has happened, but the problem is, when fighting a toughie you chomp through your medikits and thus respawn as a severely weaken character because you have no more health recuperation kits! (assuming you used them). Which can make death very expensive when trying to restock, so in effect dying when you're trying does have a penalty, which at the moment works okay for me. Another thing about it is, say you where jumped by some splicers and they kill you. Normal reaction would be to reload and go at it again, but this time be ready for it, ruining the surprise really, and you are basically cheating when you know they will appear, and it's essentially respawning with a time lag. If splicers jump you in Bioshock, you might die, but you've had the fun of dying and being jumped but you get to go back and shot them all in the face without having to reload. I see vitachambers as a quick-load, which is essentially what people do when they die anyways :).

However, I died once in a boss fight (the shame of it, blown in the back trying to hack a turret ), and actually felt cheap going back in from the vitachamber as if nothing had happened, removing my smugness at the victory. A bad point for vitachambers. :(

Also, I'm not using the Plasmids all that much. I tend to use them to access all the hidden places, but rarely use them on the baddies. Gamespot said they used Plasmids all the time and rarely weapons... I don't see how, apart from telekenisisisis they suck up the ol' Eve! I take Aracdia as my sample for that, you spend a lot of time there, and I'm no long jolting water (which was what I'd look out for before ;)).

But meh. Oh, and a MASSIVE "meh", to the little girls, I'm going to say it right now and...

IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF YOU MURDER THEM OR NOT. In fact, I'd bet you're better off not doing it, I'm not sucking 'em dry and I feel pretty happy about it.

So far it's been a good romp, even though I didn't get the game on 360 for achievements it is pretty satisfying to fully research a monster and have a pop up saying nice one have some kudos, (those God damn Houdini's!) :).

Big fan of the cam. Can't see that working as well on the PC though .

Final thing, had one crash so far. RUBBISH! The game does not autosave except at the start of a new level, and the levels are gigantic. I crashed half way through one and had to spend the next 40 mins getting back to that point. *sob* Now I save more often.

Oh, P.P.S! Exploited once already :D. Start of Bounty, had all the BD's on patrol got all the wee bairns, wandered further into the level and a scripted appearance of a BD and LS happened. *ding*. Go go gadget acronym. Straight in there with GL, swapped to the R with the AP, slapped the BD (AP ftw!), got the LS, sucked A.D.A.M. and zing! One above the supposed LS's in that level, and forever moaned at by the game for not having the right amount of LS's down. :)

Aye, I'm making an effort to try not and abuse the chamber system.

Using medikits comes down to laziness in one part.

A Big Daddie Rosie can take you down to nothing in 1 or 2 hits, and they have good aims :). If that Big Daddie is escorting a Little Sister and you respawn on the other side of the map, it's possible for him to finish his patrol with her and shove her back down a vent, which means you've got to spend the next 5 mins waiting for him to call her up again. BiG Daddies walk slow, but fight fast and if you attack without using kits it would take forever to get them down (only early on though really, because they get easier as you advance, so easy in fact that I only used one medikit on the last one :(. Damge Increase +++ all the way :D).

On a wee side note, when you get the improved static discharge tonic, be real careful around Big Daddies, I was fighting a thuggish splicer (they have melee weapons), and he wholloped me, setting of the vast area affect that is the improvement. Through no action of my own it touched the BD and he went ape shit, smacking the brains out of the back of my head before I knew what had happened. Bloody useless tonic anyways... *grumble grumble*

But it's stuff like that which saves you having to reload. You get to experience it without having to go through it all again. Maybe later on after you've learnt all the lessons they'll remove the chambers :).

Oh! On a different note, those pesky splicers use health stations to heal themselves! Cheeky goits.

Although I spoke to an industry expert yesterday, and turns out that all the problems people are complaining about the widescreen cutting off the top and bottom of the screen are just people being silly.

Turns out 2K games designed Bioshock for widescreen, and then made the code add the top and bottom sections when in 4:3 aspect ratio. So it's actually that non-widescreen users get more of the view area, rather than widescreen users losing some of the view area. Seems to me that widescreen users just want to cry about not being able to say they can see more of the game than non-widescreen users!

Really impressed with this game, the whole feel to it is great and have been enjoying the story so far. Funnily as I post this I just did the last "snap" in Fort Frolic last night.

I have always been one that likes to poke around to find as much as possible and this game feeds that need (especially with a scrounger tonic I get to search twice! :D)

Each area has had it's own feel and as you go listening to the tapes gives a great atmosphere to it. Problem is I want to keep going "Did you see..." and "what about that bit" but have no one to express it to at the moment really :D.

Aye piacular I know that feeling, got jumped on by a splicer while stood next to some windows in fort frolic which I forgot were alarmed. The static shock hit them which released those damn bots on me.

The plasmids do come in handy especially for the Houdini's I found incinerating them was a DOT (Damage over time) which made it a lot easier.

Overall loving it at the moment just wish the experience could be shared easier. Wish sometimes you could do a 2 player version where you cannot go to far from each other and have to work together. Ah dreams.

Electric Shock + Incinerate is easily a killer. Also, I find the Inferno Bolts do loads of damage vs. Big Daddies. A few proximity mines also do the trick. :)

Fury, have you done the "Masterpiece" yet? :)

Aye I've finished it and couldn't resist turning on the "creator" when he mentioned the other pot :D. Although what was in it was pants.

Now, see, that's still silly! People do widescreen to see more! If you go and make 4:3 have a wider visual range then you've ruined the point of 16:10/9 and the monies people spend to get that :(.

Aye.

Apparently, if you don't he gives you access to a power to the people machine..

Aye, but he doesn't out of the kindness of his heart. He in his apartment and you have to wind him up sufficently to get him to come out, then you get to loot the place! Woot :D.

I've print screened that Piacular, that is the worst use of spelling and grammar. Ever. "But he doesn't out", "He in his apartment" and I think you mean "sufficiently".

Tut. Tut.

Well that will explain why I have ended up with one less upgrade after completing it.

Yes, I've completed Bioshock :D
