O noez, my Minecraft is crashing! Pretty much every half a minute when I'm on promethius (when everyone else is playing there just fine), not sure how about single-player. I have the newest Java, haven't changed anything since last time all worked correctly... I have now tried deleting the home directory of Minecraft, redownloading the exe, cleaning up the .minecraft folder and nothing alleviates the issue. Also restarted the pc.

Any ideas?

It seems one unlucky person on the THN server always suffers this, and there is no real way to alleviate the problem. The best solution is to invite someone else along to play, and hope they get the fail and not you.

I tend to just strip mine. Fine a nice area, build a rudimentary structure around it, and then just start going down one layer at a time placing stairs and/or blocks around the outside.

I have multiple ways of mining. I never start mining in an area without some form of structure to it, usually connected to all my other buildings (even if they are on different islands far off) by either mining shafts or huge bridges. Ofc I use train track and a steam engined train to get to and from locations, a cargo truck or two helps as well.

From there I dig quite a few layers directly down, making damned sure that when I mine to the side I dont suddenly hit the sea bed (flooded a few mines accidentally doing that). From there I mine in any random direction in a 5x5 tunnel radius. I then make a huge circle on myself until the area is basically one giant empty cavern. If nothing is left to take my interest, I dig further down a until i have two block gap from the cavern above and then repeat the process. Do this until you hit bedrock or until you find yourself digging into a hidden cavern, usually good mining spots in those.

We need to get minecarts working on prom!

Also, how'd you tell you're about to hit the seabed?

A lot of the server mods/wrappers fix minecarts. And by fix I mean "sort of get working half the time". I would suggest waiting until Oct 30th and then seeing what Notch comes out with.

He'll come out with sod all.

Mainly because the update is on the 31st October ;-)

Definitely would be nice to see if we can get minecarts and the like working though. I get bored walking!

Two things to note about hitting seabeds. One, dig deep. VERY deep. Next, if you see sand when you mine, you aint mined deep enough, mine even deeper. Make sure you have dirt or rock at the ready. If you do accidentally knock into the sea and you have water gushing in, allow yourself some dirt so you can plug the hole or at least contain it. If you do hit water, plug it and, guess what, you ain't dug deep enough.
